Selling your home during the Holidays? Think twice before decorating!

The holidays are a wonderful time of year, especially for people who love decorating their homes. However, if you are looking to sell your home during the holidays, you may want to think twice before you bring out all your decorations from storage.

Follow these tips while decorating to keep your home looking tasteful during the Holidays:

• Clean & Declutter

  Before bringing even more items/decor into your home, make sure and get rid of any unnecessary items that aren’t essential to the space. Potential buyers can become overwhelmed with a room that appears cluttered. This is also the time to dust and vacuum –  people love to see a home that is clean, and well-maintained!

• Compliment Your Current Decor

  For example: a tree with simple, beach-themed ornaments would look perfect in a beach-themed room, as opposed to bright red and green ornaments and sparkly tinsel covering the tree.

• Keep it Simple: Inside

  Too much decor can draw people’s attention away from certain features of the home. It is important keep the decorations looking tasteful – maybe consider leaving the Santa statues & snowflake window decals in storage.

• Keep it Simple: Outside

  Flashing, multi-colored lights with blow up snowmen and reindeer may be your family’s ode to the Griswold’s home during Christmas, but chances are potential buyers may be turned off by such holiday decorations. Try to only use white string lights that don’t distract from the home’s architecture, but also accentuate the landscaping details of the property at nighttime.
